I can’t stand another 5 minute shower!?

I bought a 10 year old house about 8 months ago. We had plenty of hot water at first. Now, there is only enough to fill half a bathtub or for me to begin waking up during my morning shower. I was told that it might be an old “heating element.” Other advice on this board recommends draining something. I have zero knowledge of any of this. Facts: It is an electric water heater, not gas. Brand: Bardford White Energy Saver – Hydro Jet Total Perormance System. It was made in the U.S.A., which probably explains the problem.

I had that problem as well….. Being an electric water heater it is probably one of the elements…

They are real simple to change too.

I would by them at a local plumbing shop…. I have bought some at a home improvement store and they don’t work as well.
1).Shut the water supply off to the heater
2).Shut the power off to the hot water heater
3).Take the covers off the water heater, and remove the insulation inside, and remove the plastic covers(if they have them.
4).Disconnect the wiring
5). Using a 1 1/2 socket for 1 bolt(bolt is around the element itself) Or 3/8 socket for 4 bolt type.
6)make sure you have plenty of old towels around the water heater because water will come out doing it this way.
7) Loosen the one of the elements to the point where you can do the rest by hand.. Make sure you have the new element ready… remove the element and quickly put the new one in.
Repeat the same process for the other element..
9) Connect the wires back the way they were
10) Put the plastic covers back on tuck the insulation back in and put the outside covers back on.
11)Turn the water supply back on
12)Turn the power back on wait about 30 minutes and you should start seeing hot water

I paid about $20 for each element… I changed both of mine because my water heater is hard to get too and I didn’t want to replace just 1 and have the other one go out.
