Root Plant
What happens if I accidentally seperated the plant from the root?

I was re-potting my small watermelon plant from it’s original tiny pot, and when I was taking off the cardboard outer shell (yes, it was a cheap dollar store buy), the root and plant separated. The plant itself is about 4 inches high and the roots were about 2 inches long. I figure the plant is done, but will the roots stay ok, and “resprout” another plant? I have no prior experience with plants, except the ones I’ve killed, so I was just proud this one lasted this long from a seed. Thanks.

Another trick the pro growers of hydroponic cucumbers use is grafting. You can connect the ends of your watermelon with a soda straw (try to find clear ones, they make final adjustments easier when you can see what your doing. cut in two inch pieces. Then make the ends air tight with soft wax from a toilet wax ring. After a week, cut the straw off with an eXacto, scalpel or small scissor to prevent strangulation. It’s easy to do and I’ve had a lot of fun with various combinations over the years. Nothing ventured – go for it. RScott
